The first episode on the art of debate

Hello guys
Your are all welcome to another article on the Thierry's art museum. 

Today I am going to talk on The art of debate. 
I am very sure that most of you will be wondering what the Art of debate is. Well, if you have read the introduction of myself, I noted that I loved debating. 

When I thought of creating this blog. I pledged to make it very unique from other blogs, just then I did many researches and learned from other people. 

As a fan of debate, I noticed that debate was also in the field of art, but I was a science student. Funny isn't it. Well I still loved debating. 

And that is why I thought of tagging it The art of debate. Let's get started. 


Death penalty helps in reducing crime rate (oppose). 
"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, government are instituted among men. "

The general consensus around the world is that the primary function of the government is to secure people's rights some of which are unalienable. In the world, life is generally considered as an unalienable right. The evidence is by the quote above taken from the Declaration of independence. 

According to the death penalty information centre, 88% of these experts rejected the notion that the death penalty acts as a deterrent to murder and that the fear of death penalty has little effect on people committing murder. 

Also,

According to the Federal bureau of justice statistics as at April 1st 2018, California had the most 740 inmates, followed by Florida with 353 inmates and Texas with 232 inmates with a total number of 2,738 death row inmates. 

Globally, more than 70% of the world's countries has abolished capital punishment in law or practice. However, the death penalty continues to occur in countries with large population and those with authoritarian rule. And also, since 1973, more than 165 people who have be wrongly convicted and sentenced to death in the U.S have been exonerated. 

Before I proceed, I will like to give honour to whom it is due by saying.............................................................

Firstly, death penalty makes a public spectacle of an individual's death. Executions are often undertaken in an extremely public manner with public hangings in Iran or live broadcast of lethal injections in the U.S. 

According to the UN human rights experts, executions in public serves no legitimate purpose but only increase the cruel, inhuman, and degrading nature of this punishment. 

"All executions violate the right to life, those carried out in public are a gross affront to human dignity which cannot be tolerated" said Hassiba Hadj Amnesty international Deputy director for middle East and North Africa.

Secondly, the death penalty is inhumane. Killing people makes us like the murders who most of us despise. It is not only about what death penalty does to those who killed, but also what it does to those who do the killing and those in whose name killing is done. 

It is bad enough that we are victimized by crime in the society, we do not need to be further victimized by becoming perpetrators and enacting the death penalty and then living with the unfortunate consequences. 

It is for these reasons that I strongly disagree that death penalty helps in crime control.
